IU South Bend's Office of International Student Services would like to help
you prepare for travel. While traveling in the U.S., plan to carry copies of
your immigration documents but ensure that you keep them in a safe place.
If you plan to travel outside the U.S., please stop by the OISS before
departure in order to secure a valid travel signature on your I-20 and to
review document requirements for travel.
Circumstances surrounding COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) continue to evolve
rapidly. As the situation develops, international travel could become
increasingly difficult due to entry restrictions, periods of required
quarantine, or transportation disruptions.
If you choose to travel outside the U.S., please use caution. You should
stay aware of any entry restrictions the U.S. imposes and IU's guidance on
coming to campus after travel.

There is no dedicated airport shuttle from IUSB to the South Bend Airport. Students generally rely on taxis, buses or friends to drop them off and pick them up.
Several taxi companies are available to pick up right outside the airport to take you to your lodging. Available taxis wait for passengers on the main drive outside of the front entrance to the terminal. If you need a taxi from another location in town, it is best to call the company and request a pickup from your location.

The local bus service, Transpo, offers city bus service to destinations throughout the South Bend area.
Beginning August 6, 2018, IU South Bend students, faculty, and staff can ride South Bend Public Transportation Corporation (Transpo) buses to and from campus for free. The program is an effort to increase access to a college education at IU South Bend by helping with the transportation needs that some people face in South Bend and Mishawaka. IU South Bend students, faculty and staff can ride free of charge when they show their valid university identification card when boarding any of Transpo's fixed route buses. Bus service is available Monday through Saturday with 20 routes serving the cities of South Bend and Mishawaka.

Bus Service from Chicago to South Bend
Daily bus service is available to and from Chicago/South Bend by Coach USA/United Limo, Inc. They operate 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Check the website below for ticket prices which are payable at pickup. The schedule and fares are listed at the Web site above. The service is available from both O’Hare and Midway airports; however, Midway is not an international airport. You can pick up Coach USA/United Limo service at two locations. The first location is within the so-called domestic terminals on the lower level in the Shuttle Bus Center. Follow the arrows! The second stop location is curbside in front of Terminal 5. There are two South Bend bus service-drop offs: South Bend Regional Airport and Notre Dame Avenue.

South Shore Train
You may also opt to take the city train from the airport into Chicago’s Randolph Street Station (Millenium Station), and then board a South Shore train which stops at the South Bend Regional Airport. This can be an inexpensive and pleasant way to ride into South Bend if you plan to overnight or spend some time in Chicago before arriving in South Bend.

The process of getting a driver's license in Indiana can be complicated it is recommended that you apply for International Driver's License while you are still in your home country, so you may drive upon arrival and work toward getting an Indiana Driver's License over the course of the year that your International Driver's License is valid. You do not need a Social Security card to apply for a license or register a vehicle.
Indiana requires that all vehicles are insured.
